Gen Art Vanguard: New Contemporary Art Fair
Gen Art announced the debut of its Vanguard: New Contemporary Art Fair in December of 2008 following the success of the previous year's Vanguard Exhibition. Presented by FAGE Total, the four-day art fair brought together the top galleries, artists, and individuals who are defining the New Contemporary art movements. From Pop Surrealism and New Brow to Urban Contemporary, the fair aims to advance the dialogue about these emerging contemporary art movements and their cultural context within the art world.
While milestone exhibitions, such as “Street Art” at London’s TATE Modern and the art world's now favorable regard to art rebels Banksy, Ron English and Shepard Fairey are proof of the arrival of a new sense of aesthetic, there has yet to be an art fair solely dedicated to the rising genres often described under the umbrella of “New Contemporary.”
In keeping with Gen Art’s philosophy of championing emerging art forms and tearing down the boundaries between artists and audiences, the Gen Art Vanguard: New Contemporary Art Fair aims to extend recognition and awareness for the movements by creating a forum for cultural and social dialogue from which New Contemporary may be further defined. To that end, Gen Art Vanguard features a select group of galleries who have been essential to the New Contemporary art movement’s growth over the last decade, and who represent this new chapter in 21st century art.
In addition to the traditional exhibition platform, Gen Art Vanguard offers emerging and established collectors additional opportunities to participate in the movement through special events and programming including private receptions, panel discussions and an on-site media lounge with access to the top magazines supporting these emerging genres.
