Gen Art hosted a fashion industry cocktail reception as the kick-off event of Rock Fashion Week Miami on Wednesday, October 14th in the lobby lounge at the Eden Roc Hotel & Resort. Despite Miami people usually being late to start their evenings by 7:45pm the lounge was packed with beautiful people including members of the media and alumni designers like Karelle Levy (Krelwear) and Julian Chang. Guests then headed outside for more complimentary Stoli cocktails and watched the Pink Dress Collection runway show with Dennis Rodman (in drag of course) closing the show. The runway set-up was beautiful, set across the pool with a packed house of about 600 people under the stars.

Then came the Russell Simmons show and unfortunately about 5 minutes into it, it started to pour (love that Miami weather). But amazingly, everyone moved in an orderly fashion to the upstairs grand ballroom where there was a 2nd full runway set-up and the show started again shortly thereafter. Russell was on hand to greet his supporters. Overall, it was an amazing start to Rock Fashion Week and what turned out to be four nights of fabulous shows and parties.

Wednesday September 23rd spirits were high at Spinello Gallery for Gen Art's Miami Patron Social Club. Private guests of the well attended intimate cocktail reception included featured artist Manny Prieres, as well as art aficionados Donnamarie Baptiste of Art Basel, Gallery owner Anthony Spinello, Max Baum and Sam Baum. Local artists, photographers and high-level Gen-Art members enjoyed three delicious new Patron cocktails provided by Patron Social Club while mingling and enjoying the art exhibit and the gallery.

Miami artist Typoe, last month’s Exhibiting artist at Spinello, created an artistic back drop for photos on the chalk board of the gallery’s back wall when he drew the Patron logo freehand. Other artists who attended joined in and played around posing for photos with their drinks which created a lot of excitement and energy for the party.

On Monday, September 21st over 80 Gen Art members and VIP guests attended a special screening of The Rescue, as part of the International Day of Peace. The documentary brought to light the brutality endured by the tens of thousands of child soldiers under the rebel leader Joseph Koney during his twenty year-long reign of terror commanding The Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA). Following the inspirational screening, a representative of the International Day of Peace engaged the audience in a question and answer session. Funds were also raised for the cause through sales of goods made by children who were rescued from the Ugandan resistance.

The event was a combined effort of various community organizations including MEAD, PressItOnUSA and SWEAT Records and in attendance were Anne Owen, publisher of Miami Modern Luxury, Alan Roth, publisher of 944, and Donnamarie Baptiste, the Event Manager for Art Basel and Joanne Green, the Director of PressItOnUSA. Complimentary specialty cocktails were served within the 3,000 galley space with global music filled the air throughout the evening.
