Battle of the Chefs: Eco-Cuisine presented by SOYJOY

On Wednesday, April 22nd Gen Art members and guests attended ‘Battle of the Chefs: Eco-Cuisine’ presented by SOYJOY at Boulevard3. Guests included Julianne Moore (“Children of Men”), Amy Smart (“Crank,” ), Reid Scott (“My Boys”), Tamara Feldman (“Gossip Girl”), Alana Curry (“Days of Our Lives”), Michael Papajohn (“Terminator Salvation”), Lorna Scott (“Surviving Suburbia”), Summer Sanders (Olympic swimmer) and Jayma Mays (“Glee,” “Ugly Betty”).
The battle began as three LA-based eco-chefs, Chef Andrew Kirschner (Executive Chef of Wilshire Restaurant in Santa Monica), Chef CC (Executive Chef and Owner of Clean Plate Meals) and Chef Robert Danhi (Chef Danhi & Co.) created three soy-based dishes live on-site in heated combat. These culinary creations were then presented to a panel of celebrity judges including Julianne Moore, local celebrity chef Akasha Richmond, registered dietian and author Kate Geagan, and Connie Guttersen, RD, PHD, author and nutrition instructor at the Culinary Institute of America. They were judged based on presentation, taste, creativity and use of the key ingredient: soy. Chef Andrew Kirschner was declared both the audience choice and Grand Prize winner.
Emcee for the evening, TV host and celebrity chef Dave Lieberman, talked with the audience and the chefs throughout the battle. During the night, guests tasted the chefs creations, learned fun facts about soy through a 5,000 year timeline display and sipped specialty cocktails all based around soy. DJ Mele kept the music up and beverages were provided by JETT Vodka, Firestone Walker Brewing Co. Beer, Bandit Wine and smartwater.
