Opening Night, Tuesday, June 23rd

MARC WEBB / (500) DAYS OF SUMMER

Marc Webb directs stuff. Short films, videos, commercials, drinking games. Whatever. He’s made videos with everyone from Santana to Hot Hot Heat, My Chemical Romance and other bands you’ve never heard of. Typically, he writes about himself in the third person. Marc Webb is 30 and likes penne pasta. Webb studied at Colorado College, NYU for a semester and Art Center for a few months. He received a Newberry fellowship and spoke at his graduation. The person next to him told him to shut up. His dad is a mathematician and his mother is a biologist. His brother just had a baby. Her name is Iris. Marc has pictures if you want to see.

 

RICHARD GALE / THE HORRIBLY SLOW MURDERER WITH THE EXTREMELY INEFFICIENT WEAPON

A graduate of UCLA, Richard Gale wrote, produced and directed numerous programs for Cable TV, winning two L.A. Area Emmy Awards and three Emmy nominations. After writing and directing a couple of suspense feature films, including The Proposal starring Nick Moran and Jennifer Esposito, released by Miramax/Dimension Films, Gale decided to create his own production company in order to produce and direct his films with greater creative control. The Horribly Slow Murderer with the Extremely Inefficient Weapon marks one of the first projects of his new operation.

Night Two, Thursday, June 25th

PATRICK HOELK / MERCY

Raised between California, New York and London, Patrick Hoelk’s upbringing was everything but typical. Significant childhood memories consisted of mostly "adoption, lust, motorcycles, crime and fights." He picked up photography later in life to pass the time while workaing as a music video director. Hoelk has published 'TAR', a photography art book, produced a film for director Paul Thomas Anderson titled 'Coffee and Cigarettes', directed countless music videos and graced major fashion and entertainment magazines.
 

BRETT WAGNER / CHIEF

While attending New York University`s graduate film school, Brett began writing and directing commercial projects. Eventually, commercial work drew him west -- way west -- to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he has directed spots for McDonalds, Starwood Resorts, AT&T Wireless, and many others. In 2007, he became a winner of the Filmaka.com competition for films under three minutes. Brett grew up in beautiful and misunderstood Cleveland, Ohio. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Rochester, studied cinematography in Italy, and holds an MFA (and a great deal of low-interest debt) from NYU.

Night Three, Friday, June 26th

TALMAGE COOLEY/ PATRIOTVILLE

Talmage Cooley was born in Charlottesville, Virginia. His first film, the comedy short POL POT’S BIRTHDAY, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was featured in American Cinematographer. His second film, DIMMER, was a documentary short commissioned by the band Interpol. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and has also been included in the permanent film collections at the New York Museum of Modern Art and the Hammer Museum. He recently completed his first feature film, PATRIOTVILLE, and was named by RES Magazine as one of “Ten Most Innovative Talents” and by Screen International Magazine as one of “10 Emerging Talents to Watch”. Talmage is currently working on several film projects.

TOM EVERETT SCOTT / GLOCK

Tom Everett Scott is best known for his breakthrough performance as Guy Patterson, the drummer for The Wonders, in the Tom Hanks directorial debut That Thing You Do! Tom got into acting while attending Syracuse University. Since then he has starred in such films as: An American Werewolf in Paris, Boiler Room and Race to Witch Mountain among others. On television Tom guest starred on ER and Will and Grace. He can now be seen in the new NBC drama series Southland. Tom has also played leads in several stage productions including the Tony Nominated hit The Little Dog Laughed on Broadway. Glock is Tom’s film directorial debut.

Closing Night, Saturday, June 27th

JONAS PATE / SHRINK

Jonas Pate is a Homo sapien. He is married and has two children. Shrink is his third film.







DESTIN CRETTON / SHORT TERM 12

Destin Daniel Cretton was born and raised in Maui, Hawaii, where he spent most of his summers picking pineapples in the fields near his home. He has a BA in Communications from Point Loma Nazarene University and is finishing his Masters in Film at San Diego State University. He’s written and directed 4 award-winning short films. SHORT TERM 12 is his thesis project and winner of the coveted Jury Prize in U.S. Short Filmmaking at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. He is currently finishing a feature screenplay that is based in the same world as the short.
